Feldman, Marcie

feldman-portrait125.jpgMarcie Feldman is an interdisciplinary artist who makes paintings, sculpture and photography. For the past four years she has been engaged in a photographic journey that addresses relationships to nature and the artificial world. Her familiarity with the subject is given through intensive traveling to sites such as Antarctica, Bali, Europe, Thailand, Fiji as well as myriad National Parks and nature reserves internationally. While she often enjoys adventuring into secluded territory to find her subjects, it is really her embracing image manipulation applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom that have allowed her to explore the photographic medium in a more specific and personal way. Using this method she draws upon her formal training in making objects, such as painting and sculpture, to re-construct these captured sites in a way that reflects a painters hand that moves across the surface of a canvas or a sculptors knife that shapes clay. Many of the motifs in her work come from the natural landscape and focus on the beautiful, the poetic, the unexpected, and the sublime. Currently she has dual residence in Jackson Hole, WY and Santa Monica, CA. She feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to benefit from the vast community of artists, resources of the city, and the jaw-dropping beauty native to the west.

On A Personal Note:

I first met Marcie when she was a student at one of my workshops. I soon learned that she had studied painting and sculpture before becoming interested in photography. Perhaps that is what gives Marcie such a wonderful eye. She always sees things others don't and isn't afraid to experiment. She's a voracious learner, and she has applied discipline and hard work to to efforts to embrace photography. All that has clearly paid off.
